Proabably the best news to come out of this years Comic-Con was not that the next Batman will start shooting next year, it was that Michael Keaton has signed to star in Toy Story 3 as Barbie’s Ken.

Director Lee Unkrich said that, “Barbie is back, and this time she plays a bigger role. So naturally we had to bring in her companion Ken this time. And we can announce today that he’s voiced by Michael Keaton. He worked with us on Cars, where he voiced the bad guy, and he was a blast to work with so we invited him back as Ken.”

Perfect voice casting if you ask me….

comic con '09

Today marks the beginning of the 40th “Comic-Con International:San Diego 2009”.

While the convention began as a comic-book convention, over time it has expanded into a massive “pop-culture buffet” with everything from tv, games and movies. Over the years some of the movie industry’s major franchises have been given premiere sneak peaks there with the stars themselves usually on-hand, and this year promises to be no different.

Headlining these movies has to be James Cameron’s “Avatar”, which is widely expected to be given some sort of a preview reel. With Hall H in the massive San Diego Convention Cente being decked out with a giant 3D screen to show off probably the biggest film of the year.

Jon Favreau and Robert Downey Jnr should there with “Iron Man 2”, with Downey also there to promote Guy Richie’s “Sherlock Holmes”. Peter Jackson will be attending his first Comic Con with his latest production, the Neill Blomkamp directed “District 9”. Richard Kelly has stated that on his Twitter that he’s on his way to the Con with a specially prepared first-look at his latest “The Box” . Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland” will be making a show, although now many of the attendees will have no doubt seen the leaked trailer – Nice one there Disney!..

Other notable films to look out for include Tron 2, Nightmare On Elm Street, Jonah Hex and hopefully a tad of Toy Story 3.

Stay tuned for updates….
