iphone-orange copy

The iPhone 3G may well be opening up to other network operators in a matter of weeks – in the UK at least. Apple looks all set to break it’s two-year exclusivity deal with O2 and allow T-Mobile and Orange sell the older 3G model. This change could potentially come as early as this September, with O2 retaining exclusivity of the new 3GS model.

T-Mobile call centres in the UK have even gone as far as to tell some customers that they were going to be stocking them in the not to distant future.
The addtion of other operators selling the iPhone could potentially lead to a price war between networks, the result being that customers paying less for their tariffs.

This story does seem to give some credit to reports over here that Vodafone are to start selling the iPhone sometime later this year. One boards.ie member stating that his brother was asked by Vodafone whether he had heard reports that the iPhone was coming to Vodafone, and would he like to register interest.

A bit of competition never hurt anyone after all…

GPush

Looks like Push Gmail might finally make it to the iPhone. Push Notifications already work with MobileMe, Yahoo Mail or Exchange, but an application called GPush, which is currently under approval by Apple, hopes to be the first to make this proccess finally available to Gmail users.

It seems to be very easy to use, all you have to do is open the app one time, login using your Gmail account and that’s it, you might never have to open the app again. With each email being sent to your phone using Tiverias’ servers. Now obviously you will need to open the actual email app if you want to read the full email, but it sure beats having to open the email app each time. Now I know that already you can recieve notifications of new emails by push, but you only know when you have a new mail. This app shows you who it’s from and the subjest in a window, instead of a little number to indicate how many new emails you have.

Hopefully it gets approved by Apple, who in the past have made some perculiar decisions regarding email apps.

iPhone3Gs

So this friday see’s the launch of the latest iPhone incarnation the iPhone 3GS. It boasts double the speed, double the power and an all new 3.0 mp camera with auto focus and video capture. To be perfectly honest I was expecting more, like maybe a 5mp camera, an oled screen, better battery life and most importantly to me the ability to run applications in the background. It’s my phone why can’t I choose whether I want to run apps in the background or not.
In ways i’m glad i’m not eligible for an upgrade to this model this year, but come this time next year when surely Apple will release the iPhone 4G or whatever it will be called, I should be eligible for a free upgrade.
Here’s a few things i’d like included:

oled screen
front facing camera for iChat
dual core processor + gpu
new design

make it something like this –
