The iPhone 3G may well be opening up to other network operators in a matter of weeks – in the UK at least. Apple looks all set to break it’s two-year exclusivity deal with O2 and allow T-Mobile and Orange sell the older 3G model. This change could potentially come as early as this September, with O2 retaining exclusivity of the new 3GS model.

T-Mobile call centres in the UK have even gone as far as to tell some customers that they were going to be stocking them in the not to distant future.
The addtion of other operators selling the iPhone could potentially lead to a price war between networks, the result being that customers paying less for their tariffs.

This story does seem to give some credit to reports over here that Vodafone are to start selling the iPhone sometime later this year. One boards.ie member stating that his brother was asked by Vodafone whether he had heard reports that the iPhone was coming to Vodafone, and would he like to register interest.

A bit of competition never hurt anyone after all…
